Women on Mission (WOM) is one of many programs under the umbrella of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Union (WMU). WOM is guided by four strategic principles:
To pray for and give to missions;
To be involved in missions;
To develop spiritually toward a missions-oriented lifestyle; and
To participate in the work of the church and denomination.
Women on Mission (WOM) is responsible for communicating missions’ information to church members, sharing with the church how gifts are used, and providing church members with opportunities to participate in missions. In order to meet these goals WOM sponsors monthly projects, arranges for presentations on missions, and maintains the missions’ bulletin board.
Each year WOM works to collect funds for various purposes including Lottie Moon Offering (foreign missions), Annie Armstrong Offering (North American missions), the Mother’s Day Offering (children’s homes), Father’s Day Offering (adult homes) and the Golden Offering for State Missions (Tennessee missions). WOM also provides gift bags to Sunday morning visitors and each Fall collects Christmas gift shoeboxes as part of Operation Christmas Child (for Samaritan’s Purse to distribute worldwide).
Meetings are held every other month, starting with January, on the second Monday of the month in the fellowship center of the church from 11:30 to 1:00. The meetings usually include lunch, a program on missions, and prayer for missionaries. These gatherings are a great opportunity for fun and fellowship.
